It is with great honor that we nominate Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse for the Achievement Award for Promoting the Health of the Public in the Community Group category.
The basis of why this award was established - to honor the contributions of residents in Dakota County who devote their time, energy and talents in their communities – is exactly what Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse has done for over 10 years in the Dakota County community. Nickie Carrigan, the owner of Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse, and her team, have devoted time, energy, and talent in so many different ways to improve the overall health of the community and individuals alike and to bring people together to create a healthy future for all residents of Dakota County. Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse excels in the selection criteria categories for the Achievement Award for Promoting the Health of the Public: Leadership, Public Health Contributions, Collaboration, Advocacy, Role Model, and Evidence of Impact. Leadership: Nickie and her team have demonstrated leadership abilities through work and service throughout Dakota County and beyond. As a Rosemount resident, Nickie believes in being actively involved in her community. She is a Rosemount Rotary Club member and STRIVE mentor; RAAA volunteer; American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation supporter; and Epilepsy Foundation donor. She has been asked to speak at local schools to help educate kids (such as “Hope for Tomorrow’s Healthy Balance Session” at Rosemount Middle School) and she is a sponsor of District 196 Community Education’s “Battle Border Bolt” 5K races. When presented with opportunities to promote health and wellness in our community, Nickie and The Warehouse crew are always eager to get involved for a great cause! Public Health Contributions: Nickie has demonstrated originality and innovation –and fun- in creating solutions to public health problems in many ways. Specifically, Nickie and her team at Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse have promoted the following: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge; Toys for Tots collection event (“Operation Santa” supporter for Juvenile Arthritis patient); Zumba for a Cause (benefit event to support cancer patient); JDRF Recipe Cookbook Fundraiser; Rosemount Leprechaun’s Days Parade and Insanity Street Workout. These community health activities have advanced the health status of the community in ways that are beneficial to one’s mind, body and spirit! No matter what the age –from 6 to 93- everyone in the community has benefited from Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse. Collaboration: Nickie and her team at Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse have worked to promote collaboration and cooperation among various individuals, organizations and agencies in the community. Specifically, they have supported the Girl Scout Troop Dance Badge Award and Food Drive event; the Dakota Rev and Rosemount Hockey dry training sessions; and the Rosemount Fire Department exercise training sessions. She has been approached by small businesses to help them incorporate wellness plans into the workplace. The team at The Warehouse has also enrolled in various Fitness Reimbursement Programs through major insurance providers to help reward and incentivize members to focus on health and wellness. Advocacy: If anyone can motivate others to promote health and healthy behaviors, it is Nickie and the crew at Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse! They have held fitness classes on Thanksgiving morning for the “Thanksgiving Day Burn the Bird” workout (as well as the day-after “Leftovers” workout). They have kept the community accountable for their fitness in holding the “BoomFest” workout and the “Super Saturday” workout during the December ‘eating’ season! They have also held targeted fitness classes for women and children: the Women’s Health Event; the Rosemount Elementary School Heart Healthy event; and Stretch-n-Grow Fitness Program for kids. All of these programs have helped community members lead active and healthy lifestyles-including incorporating clean eating and promoting the benefits of exercise (including modified workouts for anyone with injuries or just getting back into the habit of exercise and healthy eating habits). Role Model: Nickie and the Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse trainers are positive role models every day of the week, whether early in the morning, during the day, or in the evening. The team has provided Team Challenge Groups (“Drop 10 With A Friend”; “12 Days of Fitness”; “Lean and Mean”) which inspire members to work together on a fitness goal. The team’s approach to sharing daily inspirational fitness messages is so uplifting. Cooperation, Collaboration and Community seem to be their mantra! Nickie believes in the importance of leading by example. Her and her family live a life of having a balance of health and wellness every day and feels others can be successful by doing the same. She also encourages this type of lifestyle in her members and team at The Warehouse. Evidence of Impact: There are many success stories on the Wall of Fame at Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse as a result of Nickie and her team’s commitment to empower individuals to challenge themselves and to provide positive coaching while promoting weight loss, fitness, and healthy living. Anyone who steps through the door at The Warehouse feels the instant positive energy in the room and the passion for fitness. For these reasons, we nominate Nickie Carrigan Fitness: The Warehouse for the Achievement Award for Promoting the Health of the Public in the Community Group category.
